Jenan was among eight hafazan (memorization) participants who presented their recitation Monday at the 65th Al-Quran Recitation and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), underway at the World Trade Center Kuala Lumpur.
For Jenan, a 24-year-old student, the MTHQA marks her international debut.
She studies at Madrasah Nur liTajweed wa Tahfiz Al-Quran in Qalqilya, about 20 kilometers from the holy city of al-Quds.
Jenan shared, through an interpreter, that she memorized at least five to ten Juzes (parts) of the Quran daily.
"I began memorizing the Quran from a young age to make my parents proud," said Jenan, the youngest of five siblings.
Other memorizers were Moussa Ayouba Idrissa from Niger, Abdulkadir Yusuf Mohamed (Somalia), Mohammad Yahya Al Zahabi (Lebanon), Isha Sowe (Gambia), Dzhalil Nurutdinov (Russia), Md Fazle Rabby (Bangladesh), and Seyma Yildirim (Turkey).

With the theme “Developing a MADANI Ummah,” the MTHQA runs from Aug 2 to 9 and features over 70 participants from around the world.
