IQNA – Unity and solidarity are the secret of the security and authority of the Islamic world, an Iranian seminary scholar said.

Iranian seminary scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Mandegari

Speaking to IQNA, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Mandegari warned that neglecting common ground and promoting division will have irreparable consequences for the Islamic Ummah.

He highlighted the very important role that cultural institutions play in strengthening Muslim unity.

Referring to the high place of unity in Quranic teachings, he said the Holy Quran has clearly called Muslims to unity three times.

“Once, it advises Muslims that their relations should be like brotherly relations. Another time, it emphasizes that under the banner of Islam, one should hold on to the divine rope and not be divided, and in another place, it calls on all monotheistic religions to move toward unity.”

In response to the question of why the Quran emphasizes unity to such an extent, the cleric said unity brings security, progress, and authority.

“When the Islamic Ummah is united, no enemy can defeat it. As Imam Khomeini (RA) said; ‘If the Muslims of the world pour a bucket of water each, Israel will be destroyed.’ Therefore, unity is essential for the security, strength, and progress of the Islamic Ummah”.

He also highlighted the common grounds between Shia and Sunni Muslims, saying, “We have a common Quran, a common Prophet, and a common Qibla with the Sunnis. Emphasizing these commonalities is unifying.”
