IQNA – The awarding ceremony of the 12th edition of Mauritania’s Quran memorization and recitation competition was held in the capital of the country.

The awarding ceremony of the 12th edition of Mauritania’s Quran memorization and recitation competition was held in the capital of the country, Nouakchott.

 

The Mauritanian minister of culture and arts, Hussein Ould Madou, awarded the prizes of the winners.

The competition was organized by Radio Mauritania and supported by Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, the country’s president.

It included four categories: memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of half of the Quran, memorization of a quarter of the Quran, and a special section for women, which was added this year.

In this edition, valuable prizes were awarded to 63 memorizers and reciters, who had reached the final stage out of 1,380 participants.

Members of jry panels from all over the country listened to their performances on regional and local stations of Radio Mauritania.

The minister of culture and arts, in his speech at the ceremony, said that the president has prioritized familiarity with the Holy Quran, tolerance and genuine religious values ​​in his national project for human development, through national strategies and reform programs in the fields of Islamic affairs, culture and media.

He added that what distinguishes this edition of the great Quran memorization and recitation competition is the addition of a special section for women and the allocation of prizes to girls who have memorized the Quran.

“This is a sign of appreciation for the role that women play in memorizing and disseminating the Quran and is an embodiment of the unwavering commitment of our religious and media institutions to instill the values ​​of equality and excellence among all,” he stated. 

Hussein Ould Madou praised the pioneering role of Radio Mauritania in establishing the place of the Holy Quran in this land, reminding the greatness of its message in hearts and minds, and strengthening its place in the life of Mauritanian society, which has long been a land of tolerance, knowledge and learning.

He added that the ministry is keen to improve the performance of public media and enable them to carry out their enlightening and informative mission in the service of religion, the nation and society.

Also speaking was Mohamed Abdelkader Ould Allada, director general of Radio Mauritania, who explained that this edition of the contest witnessed, for the first time, an increase in prizes and the expansion of the participation of women in judging and awarding prizes.

This is part of a plan to improve the quality of the competition and motivate young reciters to memorize the Holy Quran and master its sciences, he stated.

He added that the radio is working to improve its performance in accordance with the instructions of the president aimed at strengthening the presence of religious values ​​in the national media landscape.
