Abraham; A Role Model for Believers
One of the role models for Tawheed (monotheism) is Prophet Abraham (AS).
The Quran refers to the wife of pharaoh as a role model for believer: “To the believers, as a parable, God has told the story of the wife of the Pharaoh.” (Verse 11 of Surah At-Tahrim)
As for disbelievers, the wife of Noah (AS) is named as a model: “God has given as an example for the unbelievers, the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot.” (Verse 10 of Surah At-Tahrim)
The wife of Noah (AS) did not change their path (of unbelief) even though her husband was a prophet.
About Prophet Abraham (AS), the Quran says: “(God said) I am appointing you as the leader of mankind.” (Verse 124 of Surah Al-Baqarah)
Why is Abraham (AS) considered such a great figure and a hero of Tawheed?
It is because he was always submitted to the order of God and he passed all divine tests.
1- God gave Abraham (AS) a son after 100 years of waiting, but then ordered him to sacrifice his son. He immediately complied and gave priority to his duty over his love for his son. He started to do what God had commanded him to do. However, when Abraham put the knife on Ismail’s throat, a ram was provided by God and it was sacrificed instead. (Verse 105 of Surah Saffat)
2- Abraham (AS) defeated Nemrud, who was the tyrant of the time, using logic and reason. (Verse 258 of Surah Al-Baqarah)
3- Facing idolaters, Abraham (AS) smashed their idols and awakened their Fitrat (nature).
4- He severed ties with some of his close relatives for the sake of God. (Verse 104 of Surah At-Tawbah)
5- He left his wife and infant son for the sake of dignity of God’s religion. (Verse 37 of Surah Ibrahim)
6- He was even ready to sacrifice his life (when they threw him into fire). (Verse 69 of Surah Al-Anbiya)
