IQNA – As the Grand Mosque in Mecca sees an influx of Muslims performing Umrah, Saudi authorities have reiterated the rules for taking photos at Islam’s holiest site.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has advised worshippers to take photos quickly and without causing inconvenience to others, Saudi media outlets reported on Wednesday.

Pilgrims often capture their presence at the sacred site, home to the Holy Kaaba, using their mobile phones. The ministry has set guidelines, urging worshippers to avoid photographing those performing prayers or other pilgrims without permission.

Additionally, they are advised not to stand for extended periods while taking photos, as it can disrupt the flow of worshippers.

The current Umrah season, which began in late June following the annual Hajj pilgrimage attended by approximately 1.8 million Muslims, is ongoing.

Last year, around 13.5 million people performed Umrah, and Saudi Arabia aims to welcome 15 million pilgrims next year.

Umrah differs from Hajj in that the latter is a longer visit that is done once a year and performed once in a lifetime by able-bodied Muslims who can afford it.
