At a press briefing in Tehran on Saturday, organizers said the competition is being held by the Al al-Bayt (AS) Institute’s Quranic Affairs Center with support from cultural and Quranic institutions. The final stage will be hosted in the holy city on October 1–2.
Veteran Iranian qari Abbas Salimi, head of the jury panel, explained that the contest will be held under the slogan “Quran, the Book of the Faithful.”
According to Salimi, participants were divided into three categories: school students, university students, and seminary students.
“A total of 1,686 people from all 31 provinces applied. Out of them, 94 qualified for the final round,” he said.
The competition includes the fields of teen recitation, young adults’ tahqiq recitation, and duo recitation, also known as Quranic munafasa.

He underlined that the event aims to achieve more than selecting champions. “The purpose of these competitions, and of the Quranic activities of the Al al-Bayt Institute, is to train Quranic messengers who can present Iran’s image to the world and confront cultural crises,” Salimi noted.
The event is held with the spiritual support of Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Jawad Shahrestani, representative of Grand Ayatollah Seyyad Ali al-Sistani. Several leading national and international Quran masters will serve as judges.
Mohammad Ali Eslami, director of the Al al-Bayt Institute, said the competition is expected to expand beyond Iran.
“This event will not remain limited to the national level. We plan to hold an international section soon after the conclusion of the current stage,” he said.
