IQNA – An Iraqi political analyst said Iran’s retaliation against the Zionist regime was a ‘game-changer’ for regional power dynamics, adding that it was inspired by the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS).

Israel launched its aggression against Iran on June 13 but the powerful response from Iranian armed forces that included missile and drone strikes on occupied Palestinian territories compelled the aggressor to beg for a ceasefire.

Speaking to IQNA in an interview, London-based Iraqi political analyst, media activist, and writer Alaa al-Khatib described Iran’s 12-day resistance against Israeli aggression as a decisive response that restored confidence to Muslims and the oppressed worldwide.

“Iran’s retaliation established real balance and delivered a firm response to Israeli aggression. Undoubtedly, this restored trust among all Muslims and the oppressed across the globe.”

He added that Tehran’s missile and drone strikes against Israel were a “strong, deterrent move” and a clear message to those considering attacks against Iran or the region.

“This response does not belong to Iran alone—it is a response from all Muslims and people in the Middle East,” he said. “It has given them strength, deterrence, and confidence, proving that the myth of Israel’s invincible military has been shattered, along with the failure of its weapons capabilities.”

Al-Khatib argued that Iran demonstrated its effectiveness as a regional power, forcing Israel and the world to recognize its military strength.

“Iran’s homegrown weapons, which terrify Israel and global powers, made them seek an end to the war,” he said. “With its missiles, Iran turned Tel Aviv’s critical areas into a state resembling Gaza—something even Israelis admit. This military performance deserves praise and will be remembered in the history of the Islamic world and the Middle East.”

He emphasized that international law permits self-defense, noting that Iran acted within the UN Charter.

“Turkey, Pakistan, Russia, and many others acknowledged Iran’s right to defend itself against Israeli aggression,” al-Khatib said.

The analyst accused Israel of crossing “every red line”, violating international law and humanitarian principles by targeting civilians and non-military facilities in Iran.

“They assumed Iran would not retaliate, but they faced a nation that refuses humiliation, inspired by the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS).”

Al-Khatib further urged stronger action beyond condemnation, calling on international bodies like the UN Security Council, Arab League, and Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take a firm stance.

“Otherwise, (Israeli regime’s prime minister Benjamin) Netanyahu would see himself as the Middle East’s emperor,” he warned. “Statements condemning Israel must translate into action.”
